UFC is back on Fox for the weakest Fox card the UFC has ever put on so it will be interesting to what the ratings come in at. That being said, most of the fighters are very attractive and the matchups are equally exciting. Maybe that is what the new UFC brass is thinking to appeal to new people, sexy softcore MMA porn.
Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant vs. Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson
Paige has been getting a ton of hype behind her but not from fighting. She was a runner up on Dancing with the Stars and seems to have a few commercials out. That aside, this is a very exciting fight that could determine who is fight the champ next. PVZ is super tenacious wherever the fight goes. She continues to improve at team alpha male and will need to really mix it up for the win. She can’t give the karate hottie space to get her strikes off. Will need to mix it up and take her down to keep her guessing or to counter the kicks.
Michelle is an inch shorter and also has a blue belt in BJJ. She is exactly like her nickname wants to let you believe, gorgeous and a hell of a karate fighter. Michelle will be looking to use her movement to keep PVZ off her and prevent takedowns. This fight comes down to who can impose their will more.
Prediction: PVZ by decision
“Super” Sage Northcutt vs. Mickey Gall
Both of these fighters were scouted by Dana White on his show, Looking for a Fight, and have received the royal treatment from UFC’s marketing team. Sage isn’t old enough to drink but has a ton of fight experience as a lifelong martial artist. He has somehow found the time to 77 world karate championships and a perfect 15-0 kickboxing record. On top of the striking accolades, he did pretty well in wrestling in high school. The kid could very well be the future of whatever division he settles into. Sage has the speed to pull off his flashy striking techniques and the wrestling to take the fight where he wants. Still a bit green overall but will have the experience advantage going into this fight with 10 fights under his belt.
Mickey got the golden ticket to fight CM Punk in both of their UFC debut. As most analysts expected, Gall demolished him. Mickey has a pretty legit grappling game with some basic but clean striking. Don’t let the 3-0 record fool you, he will most likely be the calmer fighter in the cage and carry the size advantage. This is a tough one to pick as both of these young fighter will have made huge improvements from their last fights. Most things equal, I give Gall the mental edge which should be enough in this one.
Prediction: Gall by submission in the second
Urijah “California Kid” Faber vs. Brad “One Punch” Pickett
This is going to be the swan song of a fight for one of the early lightweight superstars in the game.
Pickett isn’t too far off retirement as well hoping to go out on the London March card. Faber was the long time featherweight champion in WEC before Jose Aldo took over and the UFC absorbed the divisions. Once a super explosive and dynamic fighter that would leap on any opportunity to end a fight. Age has gotten the best of him in a division dependent on speed as he would out against the next generation of fighter, Jimmie Rivera. Good for him Brad is a year older and very one dimensional. Retire on top and enjoy it.
Brad is a year older and should be retiring as well but want to go out in London on UFC’s March card. Pickett is a super fun slugger that Dana has kept around despite going 2-5 in his last 7. He should make is a fun scrap but will be a step behind everywhere.
Prediction: Urijah by submission in the second
Alan “Brahma” Jouban vs. Mike “Platinum” Perry
This is a super exciting fight against two of the division's best stand up action fighters. While Alan is very well rounded, he likes to get it done on the feet with 9 of his 14 wins coming via KO. Jouban is not going to become a world beater but has shown to be a consistent threat to the middle of the welterweight division.
Mike is continuing to climb the welterweight ladder with a perfect 9-0 record, all by T/KOs. He showed in his last fight to be able to 15 minutes if need me with a finish at 4:40 in the third. He is only 5’ 10” with less reach so he is going to have to really close the distance to get his hands on Alan. This is a big step up in competition for Platinum but have a feeling it is not a good match up for him right now.
Prediction: Alan by decision
