Get ready for your life to change. Not because of these fights but from my incredible predictions. For time's sake, I didn't cover some fights because they are garage. You are welcome, let's do this!
Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor
Even though this rematch makes 0 sense for the UFC to book, I am still very excited to what should be another crazy fight. This fight seems even simpler this time around than the first time these two ninjas battled.
Nate Diaz is a long time legit BJJ black belt with some seriously slick hands. Being able to hold your own when sparring with top P4P boxing, Andre Ward, and top Kickboxer, Joe Schilling, speaks volumes about Nate’s Stockon slap. The Diaz brothers are famous for their cardio work in the off season regularly competing in marathons and triathlons.
While Conor brought in a top lanky Irish boxer and an elite Jui Jitsu prospect, for his $300k camp but most likely won’t be enough. Don’t get me wrong, with the right strategy Conor can totally win this. His coach has been vocal on how important Conor’s win is to his reputation as a coach. Personally, a coach should not be vocal at all so I find it crazy my MMA feed is filled with quotes from this guy. That is my nice way of saying this guy seems full of shit.
I just don’t see Nate getting finished which means Conor has to win on points for 5 rounds. Maybe he focuses on speed and conserving energy but eventually will be suckered into a firefight. On top of everything else, Nate is looking HUGE leading up to this fight. All said, I am still giving Conor his credit with my prediction.
Prediction: Nate Diaz by Dominate Decision
Anthony Johnson vs Glover Teixeira
This fight is to see who will be the next challenger for the light-heavyweight title. Both fighters have KO power but Anthony Johnson has shown to be one of the hardest hitting fighters on the planet.
The problem with Johnson is his gas tank is very dependent on him being in control. Daniel showed if you put him in bad situations will deplete his tank very quickly. Establishing his range and getting Glover to respect his power will be key for Anthony.
Glover needs to capitalize on Johnson’s weaknesses by pushing Johnson up against the cage for the first round to tire/frustrate Anthony. Keeping Johnson on his heels will be clutch and reactive shots whenever possible.
This is going to be a rough night for one of these men and will come down to who can take control.
Prediction: Glover by 3rd Submission
Rick Story vs Donald Cerrone
Cerrones’ first BIG challenge after his move to welterweight. While Rick Story has beaten Johnny Hendricks, Thiago Alvers, & Gunnar Nelson, most consider Story a gatekeeper to the elite welterweight division. Story loves to get in people’s faces and grind away for decision wins. Rick has the chin to push past most fighter’s long offense to make things real ugly on the inside. So far in his career his chin has held up to some big hitters while never been knocked out.
Cerrone’s last fight against the resurging Patrick Cote showed he can compete against a big welterweight as Cote fought for the title in a weight class higher. Can Cerrone cut angles enough to keep Story at bay? Can Cerrone control Story if they do clinch up? These are the questions we are going to learn Saturday night.
Prediction: Story by decision.
Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means vs Sabah Homasi
With one of the best nicknames in the business, The Dirty Bird, is a total savage on the feet. He has a very high level Muay Thai arsenal of attacks with some mean elbows in the clinch (pun not originally intended). Sabah is taking a big step up from fighting in Titan FC to Tim Mean in the UFC on the main card. Homasi has a history of hitting people very hard in the face, Octogon gitters will happen here.
Predication: Dirty Bird via TKO in the 2nd
Cody Garbrandt vs Takeya Mizugaki
The old lion (Mizugaki) versus the hungry prospect (Cody) with title implications if Cody wins Saturday night. He is looking red hot after punching a hole in Thomas Almedia’s face. Mizugaki has a plodding forward wrestling heavy style that Cody should be able to out maneuver with heavy counters.
Prediction: Cody by TKO in the 1st
Raquel Pennington vs Elizabeth Phillips
Raquel is a bad bitch in the best of ways. She has been more consistent in fighting recently and against much better fighters. Elizabeth hasn't fight in a year against someone who isn't in the UFC anymore. This is Pennington's fight to lose.
Prediction: Pennington by TKO
Artem Lobov vs Chris Avila
Everything about the way Artem fight pisses me off! Good news for him is I will always watch in hopes of seeing someone beat him up. All I know about Chris is he is an up and comer training with Nate Diaz in 209. That seems good enough for me.
Predication: Avila because 209!
Neil Magny vs Lorenz Larkin
A very interesting welterweight showdown that is topping off the Fight Pass Prelims. Both are trying to climb into the title picture. Neil is an action fighter that like to press the action and use his wrestling to out position other fighters to grind out wins. Neil is coming off a big win over Hector Lombard. Larkin is very dynamic striker with solid take down defense and looked super sharp against Jorge Masvidal 3 months ago. To us, this fight comes down to how well Larkin can keep Mangy at bay to land power punches and for how long.
Prediction: Larkin by another close Decision
